What is Poly-B?
Polybutylene (Poly-B) is a flexible grey plastic pipe installed throughout BC from the late 1970s to the mid-1990s. At the time, it was considered a modern, cost-effective alternative to copper. Over time, it's proven to be prone to brittleness and leaks, often from the inside, where it isn't visible.
Are My Pipes Poly-B?
Look for grey (occaisonally black) flexible plastic pipe, sometimes marked "PB". The best places to check are near your hot water tank, in your crawlspace, or along any exposed runs in a utility room. Many homes have short copper sections at fixtures while Poly-B continues inside the walls.
Just because you see copper doesn't mean Poly-B isn't hiding out of sight.
